Fall in love with the Lake District
The Lake District is undoubtedly one of the most scenic, most beautiful places in the UK to visit. In fact, it's where my Husband and I had our honeymoon and where we've returned to time and time again. It's the sort of place that even after just one visit, will capture a piece of you heart. Despite it's reputation as being somewhere that experiences a lot of rain, The Lake District can also have beautiful weather especially so in the summer months and can be the perfect destination for an outdoor summer adventure as a couple, with friends or as a family!
There are MANY incredible gems in the Lake District, I think I could write forever about them, but here are some to get your imagination going.
Lake Windermere by Alex Gladwin
Windermere Lake, surrounded by the stunning Lake District countryside is England's largest lake and the perfect place to hire a boat or take a boat trip, relax and soak up the sun and the tranquil atmosphere. The popular town of Windermere itself is beautiful with lots of little shops and nice places to eat dotted around.
Munster Castle by Alex Gladwin Muncaster Castle dates back from the medieval age and has been home to the Pennington family for over 800 years! The Castle sits in over 70 acres of woodland gardens and is set against the stunning backdrop of the Lakeland fells including Scafell Pike which is England's highest mountain.
The castle and grounds are open to the public and are a complete must visit - the castle will enchant you and the stories of ghostly going-on's will completely intrigue you. The Hawk & Owl Centre there is amazing and the bird of prey flying display in the beautiful castle grounds is one of the best and will leave you saying 'Wow!' over and over again.
Top Tip: Ticket prices are 10% cheaper when you purchase them online!
Muncaster dates for the summer: Roman Muncaster Exhibition on until October 2022. The Gunpowder Plot outdoor theatrical experience - 22nd July. Medieval Muncaster with The Red Wyvern re-enactment society 27th - 29th August.
Grasmere Grasmere village is a charming little village where many poets and writers over the years have taken inspiration from. With cute cottages, pubs, cafes and independent shops as well as the now famous Grasmere Gingerbread shop (make sure to visit to try some of their amazing gingerbread!), Grasmere is a total Lake District gem. Here you can also step back into another century and be inspired by and experience life at Dove Cottage where famous English Poet William Wordsworth and his family used to live between 1799-1808.
Buttermere Lake Buttermere lake should not be missed - you can easily spend a day here walking the footpaths around the lake or having a relaxing picnic next to the water whilst soaking in the breathtaking views that surround you. It is so calm and tranquil at Buttermere, it'll easily become one of your favourite places in the Lake District. There are so many places to stop and just take it all in, as well as capture some stunning photographs! Towards the end of the lake, is Syke Farm Tearoom if you fancy some refreshments or locally made ice cream.
Top Tip: Scale Force waterfall and Moss Force Waterfall are a short drive from Buttermere Lake.
Honister Slate Mine England's last remaining working slate mine is such an interesting visit. The tour is brilliant and it's amazing to learn about the history and stories of the mine. You get a really good idea about what life inside a mine as a miner is like.
If you're a bit of an adrenaline junky, you can book the Infinity Bridge there and take on the longest high-wire bridge in Europe as you edge your way across a gorge 1000 feet above sea level! Or challenge yourself further to do the 3-hour adrenaline-filled Via Ferrata Xtreme!
Top Tip: The Honister pass drive is one of the most scenic mountain routes in the Lake District. Just be aware that it can at times be narrow and steep, but if you're a confident driver, the views are totally worth it.
