Glamping in a geodome in the forest at Camp Katur ‘Ssshh! Look! A baby rabbit!’ I woke up to my son excitedly shaking me awake as he pointed to a tiny rabbit, just centimetres from where we slept. The rabbit was nibbling the grass contentedly, completely oblivious to our sleepy presence.
Morning across the meadow by Monica Stott
I rolled over in my comfy bed and looked up at the sky and the gorgeous pinky sunrise that signalled a new day had arrived. Birds were chirping noisily in the trees above me and the meadow in front of me was coming to life with tiny creatures in search of breakfast.
Wake up to this by Monica Stott
A small log burner was still smouldering with the fire I’d kept stoked throughout the night and I felt incredibly lucky to have these 365-degree views from my bed. It was like we’d woken up in a magical little bubble, immersed in nature while being hidden from it at the same time.
We were staying in a geodome at Camp Katur in Yorkshire. The dome was made of clear plastic so it was quite literally like sleeping in a bubble!
Home away from home at Camp Katur in Yorkshire by Monica Stott Our bubble had enough space to sleep four people and it had a small bathroom, kitchen and fire pit area attached. We had everything we could need and the trees enclosed us snugly, giving us privacy and this gorgeous sense of being hidden away by the forest.
The little rabbit looked up and seemed to acknowledge us for a second before hopping away and resuming its hungry nibbling elsewhere.
It was time for us to hop away too and join our Bushcraft Experience in the forest. Heading deeper into the trees, we met a local naturalist who taught us how to work with nature to survive. Josh Hemingway runs bushcraft workshops from May to September and we learnt about building fires and wild cooking using ingredients we foraged. We built dens and made tools with nothing but the materials around us!
Brimham Rocks Later that day we visited Brimham Rocks, which gave us even more of the caveman vibes! These incredible, natural rock formations make you feel like you’ve stepped into an episode of The Flintstones! We couldn’t quite believe these enormous balancing rocks were the work of nature and not man-made. If you’re a National Trust member you can park for free here so it’s a free day out. Look out for the fun events they have like the ‘Blossom Bathing Mindfulness Walk’ or interactive storytelling in the rocks!
Betty's Tea Room, Harrogate by Monica Stott
After a busy day, it was time for afternoon tea at Betty’s Tea Rooms in Harrogate. Betty’s has been a British institution since 1919 and we feasted on tiny sandwiches, mini cakes and warm scones with cream and jam! We made it special with a glass of bubbles before returning to our own geodome bubble at the campsite!
