Have you ever been on a retreat? Well if you’re looking for a serene holiday I highly recommend taking a trip to Cornwall with Good Things Retreats. They are great breaks for solo travellers, groups of friends and couples alike.
I’m a seasoned fan of Cornwall, I normally try and visit at least once a year, usually on a beach break or a surfing trip with @SurfSistas, who first introduced me to the Cornish coast, my now favourite part of the British Isles.
I’d been having a hectic few months at home in London and the city was taking its toll on my mental and physical health, so when Good Things Retreats (owned by the lovely Kate from Surf Sistas) told me about their new rewilding retreat I jumped at the chance. It was an opportunity to really chill out, take part in activities that nurture your soul and have a bit of a lifestyle reset.
What is a Rewilding Retreat? Well in its simple form I would describe it as a break where you get to disconnect from everyday life and reconnect with the wild, with nature and most importantly, with yourself. Taking part in beautiful wholesome activities like wild swimming in the river, daily yoga, hikes, sound healing gong baths, massages, paddle boarding, photography classes and creative arts workshops, your day is filled with mindful, peaceful activities that nurture your soul and your physical well-being. And you can take part in as much or as little as you want to. There’s no pressure.
We stayed in a stunning private country house with a group of (max 8) other lovely guests. The house was warm and inviting, surrounded by acres of lush green gardens and colourful flowers. A woodland path leads to the shimmering, calm Helford River where we would start each day with a refreshing morning swim. The water was cold but that’s the point, cold water swimming has so many health benefits, including boosting circulation, metabolism and mental well-being.
After a delicious healthy breakfast prepared by in-house chef Robert, the rest of the days would be filled with a mindful mix of wholesome activities such as wood or beach hikes followed by lunch in a local Cornish pub, creative art and photography classes, free time to walk, meditate or read, sound healing gong baths, Ayurvedic massages and would end with a pre-dinner yin yoga class with Mel.
I quickly settled into the peaceful routine, being woken up by the sound of birds and the waves is one of the loveliest and most calming things in life. By day 6 I was completely zen and ready to stay on the retreat for the rest of the summer. So much so that I’ve already started planning my next holiday with them! What’s lovely is that I’ve now incorporated many healthy habits and daily yoga into my life back in London. It was such a great way to reset my lifestyle.
I can honestly say it was one of the most healing and serene trips I’ve ever experienced and if you’re in need of a little R&R it’s one of the loveliest rejuvenating retreats you can go on in the U.K.
