What my 2023 looks like! I pretty much had one thing in mind as I walked up Clovelly’s steep cobbled street from the Harbour, The Cottage Tea Rooms, ideally located about halfway up this charming seaside village in Devon.
I was lucky to time my trip to Clovelly with pleasant weather, it was early October after all, so I was grateful to be sat outside with a sea view as I tucked into my cream tea - of course recalling Devon’s tradition of putting the clotted cream and then the jam on your scone!
As the New Year comes around, I like to think of it as a new chapter with lots of possibilities and potential - where will I go and what will I see in the next twelve months?
I unexpectedly found myself taking two trips to Devon in 2022, after many years I wondered why I hadn’t been back sooner - what an amazing coastline!
Dartmouth and Kingswear One of my most memorable days in Devon was the Round Robin from Paignton that included a bus, boat, ferry and steam train ride. The highlight for me was the boat ride from Totnes to Dartmouth, it was so picturesque with lots to see and I loved the view from Dartmouth across to Kingswear - I’d be happy to return to this area longer in 2023.
Lincoln I had such a great time exploring Lincoln in November and wouldn’t hesitate to experience the city with family and friends in the summer.
Lincoln’s Cathedral Quarter is steeped in history, I was in my element walking amongst all the cosy tea rooms, pubs and quaint shops dotted around this area. The Cathedral and Castle are both unmissable too, there’s even an original copy of the Magna Carta protected inside a vault.
York My recent trip to Lincoln has inspired a long-held desire to walk along the cobbled streets of York sooner than later to see The Shambles - a well preserved medieval street in the city.
The Lake District National Park I’ve heard and seen so many wonderful things about the Lake District in the autumn, so I’m hoping 2023 is the year when I find myself cruising along Lake Windermere and seeking out the best tea rooms Cumbria has to offer!
As I mentioned earlier, I didn’t know I’d visit Devon on two occasions at the start of 2022 which makes the New Year all the more exciting! So here’s to spontaneous trips, and more opportunities to explore beautiful Britain - Happy New Year to you tripr reader!
